I bought an ASUS PC with windows 7 6 years ago. Windows Explorer has never worked properly on it. Since then I use FreeCommander and I'm very satisfied using it.
Many thanks to the developer !

I was getting fed up with particular issues in Powerdesk, and my ensuing search through various seemingly very worthy but in their different ways hopelessly flawed file managers led me to FreeCommander.

I had actually dismissed FreeCommander about a year before (in 200Dirol, when Powerdesk had actually seemed to be a better option, but it's clear now that either FreeCommander has come up in the world a lot since then OR I was too hasty before and hadn't delved sufficiently into its vast wealth of customization and configuration options.

What I found this time was that every time I thought it hadn't got some feature or functionality that I wanted or at least would like, a little search around would reveal just that *and more*! It really is the most fantastic file manager, and, at least for my purposes, by far the best I've ever encountered. And one thing really nice about it is that its immense configurability has enabled me to hide pretty well everything that I don't need - so on the face of it, the program as I'm using it actually looks remarkably simple and uncluttered, but everything that is showing works brilliantly for me, the way that I want.

I would particularly point to a combination of (optional, of course!) custom columns, colour coding by extension, and an amazing 'quick filter' facility as making this file manager particularly awesome in its sheer efficiency and intuitiveness in operation.

You can truly ditch Powerdesk and its ilk and *upgrade* to FreeCommander.

Just one word of caution, though. Before you commit yourself by ditching Powerdesk et al, you need to try out FreeCommander to make sure that you're not one of the unlucky few who are significantly affected by the odd known bug in FreeCommander. I'm not myself, but, as with any multifeatured program, it can happen. On the other hand at least the developer is very active on seeking to resolve all reported bugs, and rund an active support forum.

A total recommendation!

I like the built-in MD5sum ability.

Good twin panel explorer. Easy to move files between folders if you have two partitions on the HDD. Simple to setup and use.
Good for copying to and from RW CDs.
If you have, like my setup, four partitions, another equally good program is "Q-dir". It displays four panels.
