FreeCommander is an advanced file manager program. It can be used as a perfect replacement to the Windows Explorer that comes by default in your Windows O.S.
At first glance, the program interface reminded me to the famous old program, Norton Commander. Basically, it has two panels from where you can perform all tasks in an easy way. Each panel works in harmony with the other, especially in tasks such as using the FTP feature, or previewing documents, pictures, etc.
The program has many functions related to handling and managing files and folders. For example, you can compress / decompress zip files, split files to save them in storage units of low capacity, create MD5 - checksums, mass rename files, compare and synchronize folders, etc.
For this new version (2009.2), developers have applied many corrections, allowing the program run more quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, they have improved the feature of renaming files in mass, and added new features, i.e. flat views for files and folders, and the possibility to define several favorite toolbars.
Personally, I think FreeCommander is a swiss army knife for handling and managing files and folders. And it is totally free.
Pros
- The program is available in 10 languages
- It has a built-in FTP feature
- You can create MD5 - checksums
- The program's interface is easy to use
Cons
- I couldn't find one
I bought an ASUS PC with windows 7 6 years ago. Windows Explorer has never worked properly on it. Since then I use FreeCommander and I'm very satisfied using it. Many thanks to the developer !
